Daily Scrum

When and where?

  • Everyday (usually in the morning)
  • Held at the same time and same place each day to reduce complexity

How long?

  • 15- minute time-boxed event for the Development Team

What happens?

  • Team inspects the work since the last Daily Scrum and forecasts the work that could be done before the next daily scrum

Team member explain:

  • What did I do yesterday that helped the Development Team meet the Sprint Goal?
  • What will I do today to help the Development Team meet the Sprint Goal?
  • Do I see any impediment that prevents me or the Development Team from meeting the Sprint Goal?

  • What may happen after the meeting
    • Schedule Meeting After
    • The Development Team or team members often meet immediately after the Daily Scrum for detailed discussions
  • The Daily Scrum
    • Identifies impediments to development for removal
    • Improves communications 
    • Eliminates other meetings
    • Highlights and promote quick decision-making
    • Improves the Development Team’s level of knowledge

NOTE: This is a key inspect and adapt meeting.



Techniques for a successful Daily Scrum

  • Creating meeting guidelines (Etiquette) that everyone agrees to
  • Use Parking Lot (aka Tags)
  • Everyone must walk up to the board when providing the team with information
  • Whoever is speaking, selects the next person to speak
  • No one speaks unless you have a “token” in hand
  • Highest priority items is spoken about first
  • Penalizing those who don’t follow meeting guidelines (ex. Must pay dollar)
